Zim restarting the “ZEX” Transpacific service

Container shipping company Zim has relaunched its South China – California “Zim ecommerce Xpress” service, also known as “ZEX”.

The “ZEX” will make a six-week round trip calling Xiamen, Yantian, Los Angeles, and Xiamen, with a transit time of 12.5 days across the Pacific.

Zim originally launched this loop in June 2020 during the pandemic but closed it in March 2023 due to a slowdown in the Transpacific market.

The revival of the “ZEX” is driven by two main reasons. Firstly, Zim is rapidly growing its Transpacific fleet and needs to find employment for its extra ships. Secondly, the strong rise in spot ocean freight rates on the TP Southwest trade, especially the profitable China-California route, encourages and backs the decision to bring back the “ZEX”.
